President Ruto reassigns new cabinet roles following cabinet reshuffle

As parliament gets ready to vet recently appointed cabinet secretaries, President William Ruto has reassigned cabinet roles to fill key ministerial positions.

In a statement released by Head of Public Service Mr. Felix Koskei, the Head of State has assigned Cabinet Secretaries (CSs) Musalia Mudavadi, Aden Duale and Salim Mvurya additional dockets in an acting capacity. The changes announced on Saturday will see Mudavadi, the current Prime CS and CS for Foreign Affairs, also take charge of the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy.

Duale, the current CS for Environment, Climate Change and Forestry, will also handle the Agriculture and Livestock Development docket. Meanwhile, Mvurya, who heads the Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports Ministry, will be the acting Investments, Trade and Industry Ministry CS.

The changes announced on 19th December saw tormer Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui nominated to succeed Mvurya as the Cabinet Secretary for Trade. In addition, Mutahi Kagwe, a former Cabinet Secretary in Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration, has been nominated to lead the Agriculture Ministry. William Kabogo has also been nominated as the Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy.

Members of Parliament are scheduled to vet the ministerial appointees on January 14, 2025. This cabinet reshuffle follows significant changes in the government structure and aims to strengthen leadership across various ministries as President Ruto continues to implement his administration’s agenda.
