Postmortem Reveals Cause of Cyrus Jirongo’s Death

A postmortem on former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo’s body revealed he died from blunt force trauma. It caused heavy damage to his chest and abdomen.

The report also noted spine injuries and breaks in the legs.

Family pathologist Dr. Joseph Ndung’u and top government pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor oversaw the exam at Lee Funeral Home.

Police attended too.

Ndung’u noted many injuries on the body. The right hand had two breaks. Legs showed fractures as well.

Chest damage included broken ribs. It pierced the heart and tore major blood vessels. Blood filled the chest area.

Abdomen wounds hurt the liver. Blood pooled there. The spinal cord was severed.

Experts ruled death came from chest, abdomen, and spine harm due to blunt force trauma.

Police now have clear leads for their probe.

The DCI launched a probe Tuesday into Jirongo’s death. He died from crash injuries on December 13 in Karai along the Nakuru-Nairobi highway.

Early checks point to his car hitting a Climax Company Ltd bus.

The crash hit head-on at 2:19 a.m. Jirongo’s car slid 25 meters. The bus stopped 50 meters away.

DCI sent homicide detectives and forensic experts from the National Forensic Lab. They checked the site, grabbed key items. They got CCTV video from Eagol petrol station and started reviewing it.

Video shows Jirongo’s car enter at 2:18:40 a.m. from Nairobi side. No fueling.

At 2:19:10 a.m., it paused at the exit. Then at 2:19:19 a.m., it turned right toward Nairobi again.

At 2:19:25 a.m., the bus slammed into his car.

Detectives questioned bus driver Tyrus Githinji. He gave a statement earlier at Naivasha Traffic Base.

Githinji got cash bail. He must return to Naivasha Traffic Base on December 22.

They also talked to the petrol station’s night guard and fuel worker. Both shared what they saw.

The probe continues. Forensics will return to the scene. Detectives track Jirongo’s steps before the crash. They plan statements from people he met that night.

CCTV review goes on. They will question bus passengers from Climax Company Ltd and other witnesses.
