Inspector General (IG) of Police Eng. Japheth Koome has today tendered his resignation letter to President William Ruto.
The top cop’s resignation comes barely a day since President Ruto dismissed his entire cabinet.
It is believed that Mr Koome must have succumbed to pressure that has been building against top Ruto men from the public, and especially from the Gen Zs.
Coincidental with Mr Koome’s resignation was the discovery of bodies at Mukuru dump site, where more than 20 bodies were exhumed – and are believed to belong to protesters who were allegedly murdered during recent protests in Githurai 45.
In his letter of resignation, Eng. Koome rather said that he took the step as a way of facilitating changes in the police force.
Kenyans in their millions welcomed the news, but asked that action be taken following the extra judicial killings that were witnessed during the anti Finance Bill 2024 protesters.
