CUE wont recognize Oscar Sudis’ honorary degree

The Commission for University Education (CUE) has launched an investigation into Northwestern Christian University, which it asserts is unrecognized in Kenya.

The university has recently faced public backlash for awarding honorary degrees to several lawmakers, including Oscar Sudi (Kapsaret), Didmus Barasa (Kimilili), and John Waluke (Sirisia). Concerns about the university’s degree-awarding criteria have also been raised by professional bodies, such as the Institution of Engineers in Kenya.

In a statement released on Monday, CUE reiterated that Northwestern Christian University is unaccredited in Kenya and that any academic credentials issued by the institution lack local recognition. The commission is currently examining the circumstances surrounding the purported degree awards and stated that it will take appropriate action once the investigation is complete.

CUE has advised the public to verify the accreditation status of universities and available programs by consulting the CUE website or directly contacting the commission. This move aims to protect the integrity of higher education in Kenya and ensure that students pursue recognized qualifications.
