ODM Set for First Post-Raila Crucial Committee Meeting

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is set to hold a crucial Central Committee meeting on Monday, October 27, 2025 — the first since the passing of its long-time leader, Raila Odinga.

The meeting will be chaired by acting party leader Senator Oburu Odinga, who was appointed by the National Executive Committee (NEC) on October 16 to steer the party through this transitional period.

Speaking on Thursday, October 23, ODM Deputy Party Leader Abdulswamad Nassir said the gathering will be a key moment in defining the party’s direction after Raila’s death. “This will be the first official meeting chaired by Dr. Oburu Odinga as acting party leader,” Nassir noted.

He explained that the meeting will focus on three main issues. First on the agenda are the upcoming by-elections, which ODM sees as a test of its unity and strength. “Our rivals are hoping we fall apart, but we must remain united to win,” Nassir said.

The second agenda item will center on ODM’s 20th anniversary celebrations, which will also honour Raila Odinga’s 80th birthday and his enduring contribution to Kenya’s political journey.

The final item on the agenda will review the progress of the party’s 10-point agreement with the government, ensuring that commitments made are being implemented and that accountability is upheld.

Nassir added that after the Central Committee session, ODM legislators, senators, and governors will meet with the party leadership to address internal differences and forge a united path forward.

Raila Odinga, who died on October 19, 2025, after suffering a cardiac arrest in India, was laid to rest at his ancestral home in Kang’o Ka Jaramogi, Bondo, Siaya County.

Monday’s meeting is expected to mark a new chapter for ODM as it seeks to preserve Raila’s legacy while strengthening its structures under Oburu Odinga’s interim leadership.
