Top ODM leaders pledged to protect their party at all costs. They won’t let brokers sell it out to President William Ruto.
Party figures like Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, Deputy Leader Godfrey Osotsi, and Siaya Governor James Orengo denied sending anyone to deal with Ruto’s government.
Sifuna stressed that ODM members will choose the party’s path for 2027. No single person decides.
“We sent no one from ODM to talk government jobs. No brokers speak for us,” Sifuna stated.
He went on. “ODM has no set plan for 2027 yet. Members will pick the way forward. Not just a few people.”
ODM has not chosen a direction. Some leaders claim otherwise.
Sifuna added that ODM can field its own presidential candidate. Raila Odinga said so before he died.
“Raila told us ODM is strong for 2027. If you claim we’ll back someone else, he said ask: Who told you? Who told you?” Sifuna said.
Osotsi, a Vihiga senator too, urged Ruto to avoid brokers. Deal with ODM through official channels.
A few people called to State House can’t speak for ODM. That skips party rules.
“I told Ruto to contact ODM properly. No deal works without top leaders like Sifuna, Orengo, and me. Calling a few to State House breaks the rules,” Osotsi said.
Orengo warned ODM to skip informal deals with UDA or the government.
He said rash moves without thought could shrink ODM’s power. Think hard first. Stay independent.
“Skip informal government deals without real planning. Free of outside sway. Do it, and ODM shrinks fast,” Orengo cautioned.
“Such deals make ODM lose. Parties without legal cover fade,” he added.
He cited Musalia Mudavadi’s ANC and Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee. They weakened from loose ties.
ODM stands tall. It has real political strength.
Orengo called the broad-based government a loose deal between Ruto and late Raila. No constitution backs it.
ODM officials there depend fully on Ruto. No legal shield protects them.
These leaders spoke on December 23, 2025. The spot was Kaimosi Friends College. It hosted Vihiga County’s inter-denominational music festival finals. Osotsi sponsored it.
ODM’s new party leader, Oburu Odinga, warned members. Stop mixed messages. Stick to agreed plans.
