Uhuru unveils construction of new hospitals

President Uhuru Kenyatta has commissioned the construction of three new level 3 hospitals in Nairobi informal settlements. The President witnessed the ground-breaking construction of 16-bed capacity hospitals in Muthua Uthiru, Kianda in Kibra as well as a 24-bed facility at Maendeleo Village in Mukuru kwa Reuben.

In a facebook post the Member of Parliament for Kibra Mr. Benard Okoth Imran shared a post where His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta visited Kibra Constituency as they launched the construction of Kianda 42 level 3 hospital which is expected to serve hundreds of Kibra residents. He added that the construction of the hospital is part of the Government’s efforts to help curb the spread of COVID-19 within Kibra constituency. The construction work is expected to be complete by December 2020.

These projects, running under Nairobi Metropolitan Service (NMS) are earmarked to serve citizens from various parts of the city at an average cost of Ksh. 70 million. Alongside the new health facilities , NMS is also fast tracking the sinking of community boreholes to provide free clean drinking water and upgrading of access roads to asphalt standard.

Speaking to thousands of residents who showed up to welcome him, the President said the projects were part of a master plan to transform the outlook of the city especially in the informal settlements. He urged Kenyans to disregard disruptive and empty rhetoric by politicians, and support the governments efforts to improve the living standards of Nairobi residents.

The President was accompanied by NMS director Maj- General Mohamed Badi and Nairobi Regional Coordinator Kang’ethe Thuku among other senior government officials.
