New Deputy Speaker elected for Migori County Assembly

Bukira East MCA Mathews Chacha has been elected as the new Deputy Speaker for the county of Migori, replace George Omamba who was since barred from accessing office by the Employment and Labour Relations court.

Following a session held on Tuesday afternoon, chaired by County Assembly speaker Boaz Okoth, other Members of the County Assembly unanimously voted in Mr. Chacha, shifting the focus on whether the house will continue with the motion to impeach Governor Okoth Obado.

During the voting, a section of MCAs threw their weight behind Omamba claiming the election was illegal. Chacha got a total of 41 votes against his only competitor Leo Ogwada who did not receive a single vote. At least 11 representatives abstained from voting.

The assembly has suffered bad press ever since the ODM party instructed members to rally against Governor Obado and support his ouster.

The Speaker, Boaz Okoth described those involved in the process as attention seekers and urged the Deputy Speaker to work towards the restoration of peace in the Assembly, following wrangles that emerged after the impeachment talk.
