Murang’a graduates second Cohort of County Youth Service

The Murang’a County Government proudly marked the graduation of the second cohort of the Murang’a Youth Service (MYS) during an interdenominational prayer event at the Murang’a Level 5 Hospital New Ward.

The ceremony, presided over by Governor Irungu Kang’ata, celebrated the achievements of 700 youth who successfully completed their studies in local polytechnics. This brings the total number of participants in the MYS program to over 4,000 young individuals.

Each graduate received Ksh. 15,000 as start-up capital to help launch their businesses, as well as a waiver on county taxes for their first year of operation.

In his address, Governor Kang’ata highlighted the program’s commitment to job creation and economic development. “Our aim is to spur Murang’a’s economy and create jobs for the youth. We are not just training employees, but also empowering them to become employers,” he stated.

The Governor also announced internship opportunities for top-performing graduates from the first cohort, particularly those who achieved first-class honors in their NITA exams.

The Murang’a Youth Service, a flagship initiative of the County Government, recruits participants through a transparent balloting process. Those involved earn Ksh. 400 daily for community service activities, such as cleaning towns, with Ksh. 100 of that amount remitted directly to their parents.

“This initiative is a cornerstone of our commitment to empowering the next generation and preparing them to lead in business, innovation, and service,” added Governor Kang’ata. The success of the MYS program reflects the county’s dedication to fostering self-reliance and providing practical skills for future employment opportunities among its youth.
