Mps have opposed the move by Teachers Service commission (TSC) to have all public schools teachers go for mandatory refresher courses known as Teacher Professional Development (TPD), the refresher courses will determine their chances of promotion.
In a petition presented by KUPPET national chairman Omboko Milemba, the mps argued that no public participation was conducted.
The mps also opposed the fact that the teachers will catter for the cost of training arguing that it was the role of the employer to fund such programs.
According to Milemba most teachers had been delocalized hence the time to spend with families reduced. Milemba expressed doubts on how the four universities to offer the courses were chosen.
The matter was referred to parliamentary committee on education headed by Busia women representative Florence Mutua.
