Manyora: Ruto and Gachagua Could Reunite Ahead of 2027 Elections

Political analyst Herman Manyora has pointed out that President William Ruto and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua still have the chance to come together before the 2027 elections.

In an interview on his channel on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, Manyora mentioned that even though they had a political clash that resulted in Gachagua’s impeachment, political rivalries can change over time. He believes the two can move past their differences and collaborate.

He further explained that politics is ever-changing and nothing should be dismissed. Manyora noted that the President had been relying heavily on the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga for his 2027 reelection bid, especially after losing the support of the Mount Kenya voting bloc due to his fallout with Gachagua.

Now that his hopes seem to be fading and the situation looks uncertain, the President might consider reaching out to Gachagua for support from the Mountain.

“He can still head to Mount Kenya and tell the folks, ‘I’m really sorry. Can you please think it over? Let’s give it another shot.’ He can still pull it off smartly. He could have a chat with Gachagua and say, ‘I hope you can forgive me. We can proceed like this.’ Gachagua might think it over. He could even go beyond that,” Manyora mentioned.

Manyora went on to say that it’s feasible for the two to collaborate. He pointed out that since the judiciary can sometimes be swayed, the President might leverage it to win over the Deputy President by assisting in the impeachment case concerning Gachagua, promising to reinstate him as Deputy President in return for backing from the Mountain region.

“He can utilize the courts, because our courts are frequently manipulated. And I’m not shy to admit it: he can use our courts to bring Gachagua back to his role. Anything can happen in politics,” he continued.

Current political situation
This comes at a moment when the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party is split on whether to back the President for his reelection or not.

Most leaders from Luo Nyanza have pledged to stay in the broad-based government and support the President, stating that this is where the former Prime Minister left them.

Other factions within the party have urged the President to use ODM as his political platform for 2027.

However, other leaders, like Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and Nairobi Senator and Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna, disagree, asserting that ODM should maintain its position in the opposition.

During an ODM National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Tuesday, October 29, 2025, under the direction of newly appointed party leader and Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga, the party decided to continue supporting the broad-based government until 2027.
