Kisumu County bans political rallies in CBD

Kisumu County has banned political rallies in the city’s central business district leading to public outcry from politicians vying for various positions in the city.

According to the City Manager Abala Wanga, they took the decision to safeguard the interests of businessmen operating within the CBD. The manager said political rallies in the city were interfering with business and traffic and could destroy millions of investments invested by the county government.

Abala warned that stern action would be taken against any politicians who defy the order which is anchored in the cities and urban areas act.

The manager said they have designated the Moi Stadium, Kirembe grounds and Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Sports Grounds fort political rallies and urged politicians to book those venues for their political rallies. “That businessman walking to a bank to deposit or withdraw money has no business with your political rally blocking his way,” Wanga said and asked aspirants to follow their supporters in estates and seek their votes to avoid creating unnecessary inconveniences in the CBD.
