Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has expressed his support for the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) candidate Boyd Were, who is vying for the Kasipul parliamentary seat in the forthcoming elections scheduled for November 27.
During an empowerment initiative held in Kasipul, Homa Bay County, on Friday, October 31, 2025, Kindiki remarked that his endorsement aligns with the comprehensive agreement established by President William Ruto and the late ODM leader, Raila Odinga.
Supporting the ODM candidate
“As the UDA, we have resolved to back the ODM candidate in Kasipul. The candidate representing ODM here is indeed Kasipul, who is also our candidate, and that is the young man, Boyd Were. He embodies the candidate of the broad-based government. Let no one mislead you into believing they are part of the broad-based arrangement,” he asserted.
In addition to Gladys Wanga, John Mbadi, and Opiyo Wandayi, Raila ameacha chama kwa Oburu Odinga akisaidiwa. “Broad-based Mtaendelea kushikilia?” he begged. As ODM repays the favor in the Malava and Banisa Constituencies, the DP confirmed that the UDA will likewise back ODM candidates in Ugunja and Magarini. After fiercely contested primaries, Were secured the ODM party ticket and will compete against ten other candidates in the November election.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has officially approved ten candidates for the Parliamentary seat as of Sunday, October 12, 2025.
Among the prominent candidates in this race is Philip Aroko, a local grassroots mobilizer and a flamboyant businessman.
The vibrant independent candidate is anticipated to challenge the ODM’s dominance in Kasipul politics and bring about new leadership, as stated in his campaign promises.
Aroko leverages both controversy and broad appeal in his attempt to dismantle ODM’s control over politics in Homa Bay County.
Although he identifies as a full and permanent member of the ODM, he chose not to participate in the party’s primary elections, which resulted in Boyd Were being selected as the official candidate.
Other candidates in the race include Robert Ajwang, known as Money Bior, and Collins Okeyo from the Movement for Democracy and Growth (MDG) party, which is linked to Ugenya MP David Ochieng.
Additional candidates include Linda Ouma and Omondi Koyoo, among others.
