KEPSHA Chair Johnson Nzioka Dies in a Road Crush

Nairobi, Kenya – The education community is mourning the loss of Johnson Nzioka, the chairperson of the Kenya Primary Schools Headteachers Association (KEPSHA), who tragically passed away in a car accident along Mombasa Road on Sunday, February 16, 2025. Nzioka, who also served as the headteacher at Donholm Primary School in Nairobi, succumbed to injuries sustained when his vehicle collided with a trailer near Athi River.

Witnesses report that Nzioka was traveling towards Nairobi when his speeding car attempted to avoid another vehicle, resulting in the devastating crash. Emergency services were promptly called, but despite their efforts, he did not survive the injuries.

Prominent figures in Nairobi, including Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino, have expressed their condolences. Owino, who referred to Nzioka as a dear friend, took to social media to remember him: “I wish to express my sincere condolences to the family of Johnson Nzioka; Headteacher at Donholm Primary School. Rest in peace, my friend.”

Former Nairobi County Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko also mourned the loss, stating, “KEPSHA Chairman Johnson Nzioka dies in a tragic road accident in Athi River-Machakos. May his soul rest in peace.”

Nzioka was a seasoned educationist with over two decades of experience, having held leadership positions in various schools across Nairobi. As the KEPSHA chair, he led an association of more than 24,000 primary school heads and advocated for the education of over eight million learners nationwide.

Before assuming the KEPSHA leadership role in 2021, Nzioka’s commitment to co-curricular activities earned him a position as the Sub-County Chairman of the Kenya Primary Schools Sports Association, eventually becoming the National Vice-Chairperson in 2015. His dedication to education extended to his role as the Organising Secretary of the Federation of East African Primary Schools Headteachers.

In his vision for KEPSHA, Nzioka aimed to foster dialogue and empower members to enhance educational standards in primary schools across the country. “I promise to lead with dialogue and negotiation, ensuring that our members are empowered to nurture education across primary schools in the country,” he stated during his tenure.

As the education sector grapples with this profound loss, Johnson Nzioka’s legacy of leadership and commitment to education will not be forgotten. The Nyanzadaily News Blog extends its heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and the entire education community during this difficult time.
