The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a warning for Kenyans to brace for a predominantly dry week, characterized by high daytime temperatures and chilly nights in certain regions, as the country enters the first full week of February.
This advisory, released on X on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, pertains to the period from February 3 to February 9. According to the Kenya Met, weather conditions will vary across regions, with most areas experiencing sunny weather while a few may receive rainfall as the week unfolds.
In its weekly outlook, the department emphasized that this forecast impacts the entire nation, influencing urban and rural communities, farmers, motorists, and households planning their daily activities. Kenya Met clarified that while dry conditions will prevail, residents in traditionally wetter zones should remain vigilant for possible rain later in the week.
The department provided an overview of the anticipated weather pattern, noting that dry and sunny conditions will dominate in many areas.
“This Week’s Weather Forecast | 3rd–9th February 2026: Expect mostly sunny and dry conditions across the country. However, rainfall is likely in various areas, particularly in the Central Highlands, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, and Western Kenya as the week progresses,” the department’s message stated.
Moreover, Kenya Met warned that several regions will experience high daytime temperatures, particularly in low-lying and arid areas. The department urged residents in these affected regions to take necessary precautions against heat-related discomfort, especially during the afternoon hours.
Highlighting the anticipated daytime heat, the department identified specific areas likely to endure high temperatures throughout the week.
“Hot Conditions: Daytime (maximum) temperatures exceeding 30°C are expected in multiple regions, including the Coast, North-eastern, and North-western Kenya,” the statement indicated.
Simultaneously, Kenya Met cautioned that nights will be notably cold in certain highland areas, resulting in significant temperature fluctuations between day and night. The department advised residents in cooler regions to dress warmly, particularly during the early morning hours.
In its assessment of night-time conditions, the department pinpointed areas likely to experience very low temperatures.
“Cool Nights: Night-time (minimum) temperatures dropping below 10°C are anticipated in parts of the Central Highlands, the Central Rift Valley, and areas near Mt. Kilimanjaro,” the statement concluded.
