The Kenya Judiciary has strongly condemned the recent abductions of citizens who have criticized President William Ruto and his administration on social media.
In a statement shared on their official social media platforms, the Judiciary emphasized that such actions pose a serious threat to the constitutional rights of Kenyan citizens.
“Kenya is a constitutional democracy where the rule of law is a foundational value and guiding principle of our governance. Abductions have no place in law and are a direct threat to the rights of citizens,” the Judiciary stated.
The condemnation follows a rising number of abductions linked to individuals expressing dissent against the government. The Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA) has also taken notice of the situation, announcing that it has dispatched teams to investigate allegations of police involvement in these abductions.
“Where fault is found, the Authority shall make recommendations for prosecution, internal disciplinary action, or any other appropriate relief, and shall make public the responses received to these recommendations,” IPOA stated.
As public outcry continues over the abductions, the Judiciary’s statement reflects a growing concern for the safety and rights of citizens. The ongoing investigations by the IPOA are expected to shed light on these troubling incidents, with many Kenyans calling for accountability and respect for human rights in the face of rising tensions. As the situation develops, the Judiciary and oversight bodies aim to uphold the rule of law and protect citizens’ freedoms.
