ODM youth leader Kasmuel McOure has come out strongly in defence of Senator Oburu Oginga, cautioning party members and national leaders against questioning his ability to steer the Orange Democratic Movement.
In a firm statement shared on Tuesday, November 18, Kasmuel argued that any attempt to undermine Oburu’s leadership was equivalent to doubting the political wisdom and legacy of the late Raila Odinga, who played a central role in shaping ODM’s direction over the years.
According to Kasmuel, Oburu’s elevation to party leader did not happen by chance. He noted that the decision followed a long-standing succession plan guided by Raila himself, adding that the senator had already taken steps to stabilise the party following his brother’s passing. The youth official insisted that Oburu had earned the trust of key party organs and was offering steady leadership during a transitional period.
Kasmuel further claimed that a small group of MPs and political influencers were attempting to manufacture internal tension by rallying against Oburu’s new role. He described the group as individuals “used to push a false narrative,” adding that young people within ODM would not allow the leader to be discredited or pushed out by what he termed as external political interests.
He also accused individuals close to President William Ruto’s administration of attempting to interfere with ODM’s internal affairs. While he did not name specific actors, Kasmuel suggested that the growing criticism against Oburu was part of a coordinated strategy to weaken the opposition party ahead of the 2027 elections.
The youth leader reaffirmed that ODM members, particularly the youth wing, remain united behind Oburu’s leadership. He urged critics to respect party structures and focus on strengthening ODM rather than fueling unnecessary divisions. Kasmuel concluded by reassuring supporters that the party’s future remains secure under its new leadership.
