Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko today grieved with Oliech’s family and offered to Carter for burial expenses of the late Kevin Oliech, the younger brother to Harambee Stars all-time goal scorer Dennis Oliech.
Sonko announced this via a Twitter post on Thursday morning adding he has known the late Kevin through his brother Dennis Oliech who is a member of Nairobi City County Sports Board.
Kevin played For Kenyan Premier League Sides Tusker FC, Gor Mahia, Thika United, Nairobi City Stars and Mathare United. Internationally, he played for German fifth – tier side KFC Uerdingen. He also played in the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup, the oldest football tournament in Africa, which includes national teams from the East African Region.
Kevin Oliech succumbed while receiving treatment in Germany at an hospital in Berlin after a four – year battle with lung cancer on Sunday, August 16th. His body is expected to arrive in the country today at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. He will be preserved at Umash Funeral Home in Nairobi then later laid to rest on Saturday in his home town Seme, Kisumu County. The Kenyan sports icon is applauded for their tittle in 2008 under coach Francis Kimanzi.
