Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has made a bold announcement, declaring she will not seek any elective position under the ruling UDA party ticket in upcoming elections. Speaking on Citizen TV on Wednesday, Wamuchomba expressed her disappointment with the party, stating, “I was elected under UDA, but I am not going to vie again under UDA. I must declare, if I ever vie for any position, it will not be with a UDA party ticket because UDA has betrayed me.”
Wamuchomba, who had high hopes for UDA’s leadership, criticized the Kenya Kwanza administration for failing to consult with leaders who campaigned for President Ruto, including herself. “I did not campaign for President Ruto to invade people’s pay slips and impose serious mandatory deductions,” she said, emphasizing her opposition to recent policies in Parliament.
While she remains a UDA member due to her current parliamentary sponsorship, Wamuchomba has voiced her disagreement with many of the party’s actions over the past two years. She urged Kenyans to recognize that political parties often prioritize their interests over those of the electorate. “These political parties are con games. Leaders often turn against the people once elected,” she lamented.
Gathoni Wamuchomba questioned the promises made by UDA, highlighting the lack of progress on initiatives like the guaranteed minimum returns for farmers. “Where is GMR for my coffee, avocado, tea, and milk farmers?” she asked, expressing her disillusionment with the party’s failure to deliver on its commitments.
This statement comes amid her appearances at events organized by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, further fueling speculation about her political future. As the political landscape shifts, Wamuchomba’s stance may signal a broader sentiment among leaders and constituents alike.
