Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has made explosive claims regarding a covert unit allegedly responsible for the recent wave of abductions in the country.
In a press address on Friday, Gachagua revealed that this unit operates outside the command of the Inspector General of Police and is allegedly led by an individual he referred to only as “Abel,” who is purportedly related to a high-ranking government official.
“There is a unit that is not under the command of the IG of Police. They are operating from a building on the 21st floor in Nairobi’s city center, led by a certain Mr. Abel, who is a cousin to a very senior official in this government,” Gachagua stated. He warned that if the unit is not dismantled, he will disclose the name of the building and the identities of the officials involved, suggesting that the public may speculate about the commander of this unit.
Gachagua did not hold back in criticizing his former boss, President William Ruto, for his silence on the abductions. He pointed out the unsettling pattern among the victims, many of whom have openly criticized the President.
“The Kenyan people are angry with Ruto’s administration, and killing our children will not quell that anger,” he asserted. “Abducting young people is not a solution; you must address the root causes of discontent. Why are people aggrieved with this administration?”
He emphasized that, since independence, it is unprecedented for a government to target children in this manner. “The question the President must address is – why has everybody turned against you and your administration in only two years? That is what you need to interrogate instead of persecuting these children,” Gachagua added.
These revelations come amid increasing scrutiny and unanswered questions surrounding the individuals behind the abductions, raising concerns about the safety and welfare of Kenyan citizens.
