First WRC Rally Cars Arrive Ahead Safari Rally

The first batch of rally cars for the upcoming Safari Rally Kenya has arrived in the country, marking the start of preparations for one of the most anticipated motorsport events in the global rally calendar. The high-performance vehicles touched down at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport early Tuesday morning before being carefully unloaded as part of the complex logistics involved in organising the international competition.

The rally, which is part of the World Rally Championship, will see drivers compete across challenging terrain in Naivasha and nearby areas. This year’s edition features 20 special stages covering roughly 350 kilometres of competitive racing through rugged landscapes known for testing both drivers and machines.

The competition will officially begin on Thursday with a six-kilometre shakedown session at the Naivasha Wildlife Sanctuary. During this stage, drivers will make final adjustments to their vehicles before the ceremonial flag-off from the rally service park later in the afternoon.

The opening competitive stage will take place at Camp Moran, a demanding 24.5-kilometre stretch that often provides an early challenge for participants. Drivers will then tackle the newly introduced Mzabibu Stage, a shorter nine-kilometre section designed to offer fans an exciting viewing experience before the cars are secured overnight.

Friday is expected to be the most demanding day of the rally, with eight stages covering more than 136 kilometres. Crews will face rough terrain and unpredictable weather conditions, factors that have long defined the toughness of the Kenyan rally.

Saturday’s action will move to the vast plains of the Delamere Estates, where competitors will race through stages including Soysambu Conservancy, Lake Elementaita and Sleeping Warrior.

The rally will conclude on Sunday with the final stages passing through Hell’s Gate National Park, where the decisive Wolf Power Stage will determine the final standings.
