The complainant, Ms. Diana Lutta, disclosed that the former United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) secretary-general assaulted her in a Mombasa hotel, Kenya’s coast after she declined his advances.
According to Lutta, Dr. Kituyi pushed her from the bed, and she fell on the floor, where he then kicked her, sustaining injuries in the left knee. She noted that he is her boyfriend.
The incident is purported to have transpired on May 22, when the former minister was at the coast to popularize his presidential bid.
An inquiry into the incident was opened at Mombasa’s Nyali Police Station following a directive from Police Inspector General Hillary Mutyambai after the woman recorded the statement. Three other witnesses have recorded statements on the allegations.
“We have already opened an inquiry file with the Nyali Police Station, we are yet to forward the file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP) so that he may advise on whether a crime was committed,” the Coastal Regional Police Commander Paul Ndambuk told the Daily Nation.
