Domestic Dispute Ends in Tragic Killing

Police in Nyamira County are holding a woman after her husband was found dead following a prolonged domestic dispute over money allegedly sent from abroad. The incident occurred in Tindereti village, Borabu, on January 16, 2026, and the deceased was identified as 32-year-old Elijah Mogoi.

According to investigators, Mogoi’s wife had been working in Saudi Arabia and regularly sent money home for development projects. Police say she returned to Kenya in December last year only to discover that none of the agreed projects had been implemented, sparking ongoing tension within the household. The disagreements reportedly lasted several weeks and escalated into a fatal confrontation.

Mogoi’s body was discovered outside his house with visible injuries to the head and face. Officers who responded to the scene recovered blood-stained clothing hidden in a basin beneath the bed, along with a sharp knife believed to have been used in the attack. The woman was arrested as a person of interest, and the body was transferred to the mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.

In a separate incident in Kambi Garba, Isiolo County, a man identified as Abbas Shariff was found dead with a gunshot wound to the ribs. Police said the motive behind the shooting was not immediately clear, and investigations are ongoing.

Another body was discovered in Gatue village, Tharaka Nithi County, where a man was found lying in a thicket. The body was partially decomposed, and officers noted head injuries, suggesting the victim may have been killed elsewhere and dumped at the site. The remains were taken to the mortuary for further examination.

Meanwhile, in Karuri, Kigumo, Murang’a County, a man was reportedly hacked to death after being accused of stealing bananas. The suspect was arrested, and police said a panga was used in the attack.

In Malindi, Kilifi County, a 73-year-old Swiss national, Patrick Christian Claude, collapsed near a swimming pool and died. He had arrived in the country on January 10 and was staying in the Kilimandogo area. The cause of death has not yet been established, and an autopsy is pending.
