Daystar University signs MOU with Israeli Embassy for Zion Forest Project

Daystar University has officially announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Israeli Embassy in Nairobi to establish a Zion Forest on its campus.

According to the Vice Chancellor of Daystar University Prof. Laban Ayiro, the initiative, aimed at enhancing the university’s green spaces, will kick off with the planting of the first 2,000 trees on Wednesday, December 18, 2024.

In addition to the initial planting, an extra 3,000 trees, including various Biblical species, will be planted in January, bringing the total commitment to 5,000 trees. This effort is designed to create a vibrant green space that will not only enrich the learning environment for students but also benefit the local community.

“The Zion Forest will serve as a symbol of friendship and collaboration between Israel and Kenya, highlighting the commitment of both nations to environmental sustainability and educational advancement.” Said Prof Ayiro and added that Daystar University looks forward to the positive impact this project will have on its campus and the surrounding area, fostering a deeper connection between nature and education.

Since his appointment as Vice Chancellor of Daystar University, Prof Laban P. Ayiro has taken a keen interest in planting trees at the Daystar University Athir River campus and has been able o reclaim dry sections of the campus into beautiful parks laced with trees and grass.

In 2023, Professor Ayiro launched the Chandaria Tree Nursery sponsored by the Chandaria Foundation and the Global Peace Foundation with a capacity of 100,000 annually.
