Joseph Kairo Wambui, also known as Khalif Kairo, faced renewed legal troubles on Tuesday when he was arrested by detectives immediately after attending a court session related to one of his multiple fraud cases. The latest allegations involve Kairo’s failure to deliver a Volkswagen Tiguan for which he accepted payment.
Kairo’s court appearance at Milimani Law Courts was linked to a previous fraud charge, for which he was granted Ksh 2 million cash bail on January 14, 2025. He stands accused of defrauding clients of millions by taking payments for vehicles that were never delivered.
Following the court proceedings, Kairo was intercepted by detectives and taken into custody for further questioning. During the session, Kairo requested the release of his passport to travel to the United States for a week to attend a fundraiser. His advocate, Davidson Makau, assured the court that Kairo was not a flight risk and would return post-trip. However, the prosecution insisted that Kairo provide comprehensive travel details, including his itinerary, before the court could consider his request.
The court is set to revisit the matter on January 31, allowing the defense time to submit the necessary documents. Khalif Kairo is also accused of defrauding clients, including Jeff Munane and Dona Okoth, out of Ksh 2.1 million and Ksh 2.98 million, respectively, for vehicles that were never delivered. He was granted Ksh 1 million cash bail for each count or an alternative bond as the investigation into his business dealings continues.
