CS Justin Muturi says NIS abducted his son

Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi has made a startling claim regarding the alleged abduction of his son, Leslie Muturi, by officers from the National Intelligence Service (NIS) under orders from President William Ruto.

In a statement recorded with the police on Tuesday, CS Muturi provided a detailed account of the incident, which occurred on June 22, 2024. According to his report, armed and hooded assailants kidnapped Leslie along Dennis Pritt Road while he was with Embakasi West MP Mark Mwenje and Marangu Imanyara at the Alfajiri Lounge, prior to heading to a birthday party in Lavington.

Muturi expressed his shock at the situation and stated that he would reach out to Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji for further clarification. Despite the urgency of the matter, Prof. Kindiki, upon being contacted, revealed that the Director General of NIS denied holding Leslie. This prompted CS Muturi to insist on the information he had received from an NIS officer, but Prof. Kindiki maintained that the DG could not be lying.

In a bid to address the matter directly, Muturi visited State House to speak with President Ruto. During their meeting, he recounted the distressing ordeal and expressed his belief that NIS was indeed in custody of his son. The President, in a moment of levity, questioned why anyone would apprehend a young person involved in Gen Z demonstrations, even referencing other officials’ children who had participated in similar protests.

President Ruto, acknowledging a flood of messages on his phone, immediately reached out to Noordin Haji at Muturi’s request. According to the CS, he overheard the President asking Haji about Leslie’s whereabouts. Haji confirmed that Leslie was indeed in NIS custody, and President Ruto instructed his immediate release.

Within an hour, Leslie was returned home safely. This incident has raised serious concerns regarding the conduct of intelligence agencies and the implications of political power in matters of personal safety. Nyanza Daily will continue to follow this developing story closely.
