Citizen TV Journalist Seth Olale and other journalists from local and international media have been attacked and robbed by knife-wielding gangs while covering Azimio demos in Kibra Nairobi.
According to reports by Citizen Digital an armed gang descended on journalists covering the protests, forcing them to flee for their lives. “As we were covering the ongoing demonstrations, protesters had lit bonfires and we were watching the protests unfold when we were attacked,” Said journalist Ndung’u told Citizen Digital.
The ongoing anti-government demos saw Nairobi Nairobi city wake up to heavy security on Monday with a heavy contingent of anti-riot police erecting roadblocks at Nyerere-Processional roads intersection and all roads leading to State House with similar deployments in the Central Business District (CBD).
Public transport to Nairobi has also been paralyzed with transporters from various parts of the country such as Nyeri avoiding making trips to the capital city for fear of chaos. The Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) has also suspended its Monday commuter train services which ply Syokimau, Ruiru, Embakasi, Kahawa West and Kikuyu routes for Monday.
