He invited Prince Harry to visit Kenya through Dongruokdala, a CBO in Ukwala that empowers the youth through vocational training amongst other activities. “People’s paths cross for a reason. I also told Prince Harry that am proud of them for the Invictus games.” Said Erick who is a younger brother to former Ugenya constituency aspirant for MP Daniel Juma Omondi.
The Invictus Games is an international multi-sport event first held in 2014 for injured servicemen and women. The games were founded by Prince Harry who was inspired by his 2013 visit to the Warrior Games in the US. The goal is to give soldiers who are wounded, injured or ill in body and soul a greater awareness and recognition in society and to support their path in rehabilitation.
This event is a life changing experience to our soldiers who have gone and are still going through a lot. Under the motto “A HOME FOR RESPECT.” This year’s event is presented by Boeing in Düsseldorf Germany at Merkur Spiel Arena and will culminate on 16th September 2023.
Invictus games means “undefeated.” The term embodies the fighting spirit of the participating men and women, as well as their motivation to move on with their lives, to gain a new place in life, and to not let themselves be defined by the trauma they have suffered.
Kenya, however, is not party of the countries taking part with Nigeria being the only African country. Prince Harry tasked Erick and Kenyan nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba who was also at the venue to convey his invitation to the Kenya Defence Forces to participate in the February 2025 Invictus games scheduled for Vancouver Canada.
Erick whose brother in law was one of the participants in the games said he was humbled to see the extraordinary men and women overcome the challenges. “Their undefeated spirit shown through their will to participate and win medals in various sports is true definition of champions. Several servicemen and veterans inspired me especially my brother-in-law who is among the top participants for team Canada in this year’s event.” he said and added that he looks forward to to seeing Kenyans participate in the next event in Canada.
