Azimio panel now says running mate interview is optional

A selection panel appointed to pick Azumi la Umoja presidential aspirant Raila Odinga’s running mate today announced that those being considered for the position need not appear before them for interviews.

This followed criticism by the Kenya Kwanza and allies of Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka who called on Kalonzo not to appear before the panel terming the process a humiliation to the former Vice president and twice running mate to Raila Odinga.

Chaired by former Minister Noah Wekesa, the Azimio running mate selection panel is tasked with proposing the most favourable candidate for Azimio’s presidential candidate Raila Odinga.

The panel has faced criticisms especially from the Wiper Democratic Movement party who have encouraged its leader Kalonzo Musyoka not to appear before it terming it humiliating and demeaning for the former Vice President.

Kalonzo had deemed it automatic that he would be the best candidate having been running mate twice and having served as Vice President of Kenya. However, the panel changed tactic and called on constituent parties within the coalition to propose names of individuals for consideration as running mate.
