Atandi Pushes Nyanza to Back ODM-Ruto Deal

Alego Usonga MP Samuel Atandi encourages Nyanza residents to unite behind the collaboration between the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and President William Ruto ahead of the upcoming ODM convention in Kisumu.

During an ODM youth meeting at Tom Mboya Labour College in Kisumu on May 23, 2026, Atandi emphasized the importance of consolidating political strength under ODM to access national government development opportunities and empowerment programs.

He announced that Parliament allocated Ksh2 billion in the recent supplementary budget to compensate victims of post-election violence and political conflicts.

“This funding will be distributed in the coming weeks before the next budget cycle,” Atandi stated.

He highlighted that Kisumu families affected by politically instigated violence would benefit from this compensation initiative, expressing hope that it would end politically driven violence in the region.

“We want to ensure no one loses their life or land due to politics. This should be the last time a Luo suffers because of political issues,” he said.

Atandi acknowledged that while the Luo community did not largely support President Ruto in the last election, he has included the region through appointments and development opportunities in collaboration with ODM leader Raila Odinga.

He urged the region to organize politically and strategically for the next elections instead of remaining disconnected from national power.

“We aim to plan effectively to re-elect President Ruto, enabling us to negotiate for better positions,” he stated.

Atandi stressed that the community’s political influence depends on unity within ODM, urging leaders to avoid internal divisions.

“That is why we gather as ODM youth leaders from Kisumu County. Our message is clear: we want to remain united under ODM,” he affirmed.

He cautioned against divisions that could weaken the Luo community’s political voice and bargaining power.

“We cannot afford to divide ourselves; it will diminish our influence,” Atandi warned.

He announced that ODM supporters from the Luo Nyanza region would gather in Kisumu on May 31, 2026, to demonstrate unity and political solidarity.

“We invite everyone to join us in expressing our unity,” he concluded.
