
Youth leader general Oburu Odinga as he is popularly known by his followers left mourners at the Nyayo stadium in stitches after he explained why he married the second wife.
Oburu who spoke while delivering his tribute to the late Honorable Raila Amollo Odinga introduced his two wives led by Judith Oburu and according to him, the second wife was necessary because he did not want to subject his elder wife to unnecessary drama at his age.
“At my age, I don’t want my first wife(Judith Oburu) to scratch me, to massage me, so I brought her helper.” Oburu Odinga stated.
The speech left netizens amazed with the young men and women on social media “welcoming and embracing him” to the their lifestyles as a fellow “youth” and a Gen Z.
Oburu Odinga also described the late Raila Odinga as a younger brother whom he nevertheless respected as his elder in the echelons of political power. He also made reference to their earlier life as children, terming Raila as a great chef when growing up.
With regards to school life, the Siaya senator stated that Raila was very smart upstairs, always ranking position one in class. On his side, he referred to himself as an average student who always became position 3 or 4.
Some of the leaders who attended the Nyayo stadium state funeral service include president William Samoei Ruto, deputy president Kithure Kindiki, former president Uhuru Kenyatta, the entire ODM leadership, local leaders from the government side and opposition, and representatives from foreign countries amongst them Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi, Italy, South Sudan, Somalia, Ethiopia amongst others.
At the Karen home, a night vigil will be held for family members, close associates, and friends today on Friday, marking the beginning of the final farewell rites.
On Saturday the 18th, the funeral procession will depart Nairobi for Kisumu county, where a public viewing will be held at Moi Stadium from 9am to 3pm.
The former prime minister will then be laid to rest the next day on Sunday at their serene homestead at the popular Kang’o Ka Jaramogi which serves as the Odinga family graveyard. The ODM leader will be buried next to his late mother Mary Ajuma as per his wishes.
