The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) has successfully seized over 4,000 counterfeit alcoholic products in a significant operation targeting the illicit alcohol trade in Kayole, Nairobi.
On Wednesday, September 2, 2026, a multi-agency team, spearheaded by NACADA, conducted a raid on a suspected distribution hub in the area, confiscating more than 250 cartons of various counterfeit alcoholic beverages.
During this operation, authorities arrested two suspects, who are currently held at Jogoo Road Police Station and await arraignment in court on Thursday.
This operation involved collaboration among officers from NACADA, the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS), National Government Administration Officers (NGAO), the National Police Service (NPS), and the National Government Administrative Police Unit (NGAPU).
NACADA emphasized that this coordinated effort aims to disrupt supply chains of counterfeit alcohol, which pose significant health risks to consumers.
The Kayole raid follows earlier successful operations in Eastleigh, Jericho, Mukuru Kwa Njenga, and South B, where authorities have previously recovered hundreds of counterfeit alcoholic beverages and narcotics.
Dr. Anthony Omerikwa, NACADA’s Chief Executive Officer, acknowledged the vital role of the public in providing information that has empowered authorities to identify and dismantle illicit alcohol networks.
“I express my gratitude to the public for consistently sharing valuable and actionable intelligence about unlawful alcohol counterfeiting activities in our neighborhoods, which has led to positive outcomes,” stated Dr. Omerikwa.
He reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to addressing alcohol and drug abuse, cautioning individuals involved in the illegal trade that they will face strict enforcement action.
“The president has clearly articulated the government’s stance in the fight against alcohol and drug abuse, and NACADA will relentlessly pursue all those jeopardizing community safety through their illegal activities,” he emphasized.
Dr. Omerikwa encouraged Kenyans to continue sharing information with NACADA, underscoring that public cooperation is essential to the ongoing crackdown.
He highlighted that NACADA’s approach transcends mere enforcement, incorporating initiatives aimed at addressing substance dependence through community-based rehabilitation.
“This crackdown is not only focused on enforcement but represents a comprehensive strategy to safeguard our communities,” Dr. Omerikwa stated, adding that NACADA is simultaneously implementing strategies to support community-based rehabilitation for individuals with substance use dependence.
NACADA has previously launched a Community-Based Rehabilitation Framework for Substance Use Disorders, which prioritizes prevention, treatment, and reintegration alongside enforcement efforts.
The Authority confirmed that the two suspects arrested in Kayole will face the full consequences of the law as investigations progress.
NACADA also cautioned manufacturers and alcohol outlets engaged in counterfeit and illicit trade that the crackdown will persist.
Dr. Omerikwa encouraged the public to report suspected illegal alcohol and drug activities via NACADA’s official social media platforms or its free helpline, 1192.
He assured the public that all information provided would be treated confidentially and acted upon swiftly.
NACADA announced plans for more intelligence-led operations in other high-risk areas as it intensifies efforts to combat counterfeit alcohol and narcotics, thereby prioritizing public health and safety.
