George Kimani Gitangia faced this unfortunate attack on his way home. His cousin, upon discovering the distressing scene, raised an alarm that drew the attention of the public, who promptly intervened and drove the dogs away.
Upon arrival, rescuers found Gitangia with multiple dog bite injuries across his body. They swiftly transported him to St. Teresa Hospital in Kikuyu for emergency treatment, after which he was referred to Kenyatta National Hospital in Nairobi. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries during the transfer to the referral facility.
His body has been relocated to the Kenyatta National Hospital mortuary, pending further procedures. The police have initiated an investigation into this incident, focusing on the circumstances surrounding the attack and the location of the stray dogs involved. Authorities noted that Gitangia was known to have struggled with alcohol dependency and mental health issues.
In a separate incident, police in Kisumu are investigating the murder of 20-year-old Roy Omondi, who died from a stab wound to the neck during a confrontation regarding the movement of a funeral procession.
Omondi succumbed to his injuries at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) on Saturday, August 22, 2026, after the incident that took place on Friday around 4 p.m. at the JOOTRH mortuary. Tasked with coordinating the procession, Omondi was overseeing the transport of a relative’s body from the mortuary to Nyamasaria when a tuk-tuk driver obstructed the convoy’s path.
When Omondi requested the driver to park appropriately to facilitate an orderly exit, the situation escalated. The driver allegedly brandished a knife from a jungle-green sheath and inflicted a deep stab wound on the left side of Omondi’s neck before fleeing the scene.
Omondi received immediate medical attention at JOOTRH but ultimately passed away early Saturday morning due to his injuries. Police officers have processed the scene, recovering a jungle-green knife sheath believed to be linked to the attack as evidence. His body is currently at the JOOTRH mortuary, awaiting a postmortem examination. Investigators are actively working to locate the suspect and clarify the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
