Roots Party leader George Wajackoyah has confidently affirmed his commitment to running for president in the 2027 general election. Despite ongoing efforts by opposition leaders to forge a united political front, Wajackoyah remains steadfast in his pursuit of the presidency.
In a recent interview with a local TV station on August 17, 2026, Wajackoyah reiterated his unwavering presidential ambition, firmly rejecting any suggestions that he might withdraw in favor of another candidate. “Definitely,” he affirmed when asked about his candidacy.
Wajackoyah emphasized that the Roots Party is a registered political entity, equipped with a presidential candidate, thereby establishing his position as an independent contender while other politicians seek alliances ahead of the election. “Roots Party is a registered political party with a presidential candidate,” he stated.
Additionally, Wajackoyah clarified that he has not received any overtures from the United Alternative Government, a newly formed opposition coalition aiming to unite various political factions against President William Ruto. “I have not been approached,” he noted.
Reflecting on his experience from the 2022 presidential election, where he was one of four candidates cleared to run, Wajackoyah expressed that this experience has provided him with a national platform. He believes his current strategy, focused on grassroots support, sets him apart. “Now, with my grassroots mobilization, without prejudice, I am on the ballot. I am running for president,” he declared.
Wajackoyah also challenged the relevance of opinion polls that have overlooked his name, asserting that his campaign prioritizes direct engagement with voters. “And the concern has been with the TIFA polls; those polls that circulate never mentioned my name,” he remarked.
He affirmed that he does not depend on poll rankings to shape his political trajectory. “I’m not campaigning for them. I’m campaigning within the population and the people of the Republic of Kenya,” he stated.
As political parties and presidential candidates ramp up preparations for the 2027 General Election, Wajackoyah’s message remains clear: he is committed to staying in the race, relying on the strength of his grassroots campaign to define his political future.
