Police are actively investigating the shooting death of a shopkeeper during a robbery in Ntimaru, Migori County. A specialized squad has been deployed to track down the gunmen responsible for this incident and previous crimes, as confirmed by police on Tuesday.
Morris Marwa, 45, suffered seven gunshot wounds at close range from suspected robbers who stormed his shop on the night of May 3. Witnesses reported that the area was experiencing a blackout when two armed men, one wielding an AK-47, entered the shop, ordering Marwa and a few customers to sit down. While the others complied, Marwa questioned their identity, provoking the gunman to shoot him multiple times before fleeing the scene. Notably, the assailants did not take anything from the shop.
Officers who arrived later recovered two spent cartridges for ballistic analysis and are determined to apprehend the gang. This same group had previously robbed another shop nearby, stealing Sh150,000 before escaping when an alarm was raised. Despite ongoing efforts, armed robberies in the area continue to rise, although some cases have been resolved.
In a separate incident, police in Narok County are investigating the brutal murder of 23-year-old Malak Isoe Ondiba, whose body was discovered early Sunday morning in Lolgorian Township, Transmara South Sub-County. Ondiba, a matatu stage operator, was found in the Riverside area around 7:30 a.m. with multiple injuries, including severe head wounds and deep cuts on both hands. Authorities have labeled the attack as heinous, though the motive remains unclear.
Investigators processed the scene, and the body has been taken to Transmara West Sub-County Level 4 Hospital mortuary for preservation pending a postmortem examination. Police are conducting a manhunt for the suspects and encourage the public to share any information that could aid the investigation.
