Detectives in Kwale County are investigating the killing of an elderly man found dead inside his home in Samburu Sub-County, in a case that has taken a confusing turn due to conflicting identification reports.
According to police, the incident was reported by the victim’s son, who said his 87-year-old father, Mwavadu Ndawa, had been discovered dead on Thursday, April 16. Coast Regional Police Commander Ali Nuno confirmed that the body was first found by the deceased’s granddaughter, lying on a bed in a pool of blood.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim had sustained stab wounds to the back of the neck and the left ear, believed to have been inflicted using a sharp object. Authorities suspect the attack was carried out by unknown assailants. The scene was processed by investigators before the body was taken to Kinango Sub-County Hospital mortuary for preservation, pending a postmortem examination.
However, the case has since become more complex after a separate identification at Kwale County Hospital mortuary suggested the body belonged to a different individual. In that instance, relatives identified the deceased as Hassan Bakari Ngare, a 40-year-old man from Maweni Village in Likoni Sub-County. A postmortem examination has already been conducted under that identification.
The conflicting claims have raised serious questions about the victim’s true identity, with police now working to reconcile the discrepancies and establish exactly who was killed. Investigations are ongoing, and no arrests have been made so far.
In a separate development in Kisumu County, police have arrested a suspect linked to the murder of 48-year-old Elizabeth Adhiambo Yogo. The suspect, who had been on the run, surrendered at Kombewa Police Station on Thursday.
Police believe the killing stemmed from a suspected love triangle. Investigations indicate the suspect had inherited the deceased in 2018 following the death of her husband, in line with local customs, but the relationship later deteriorated, leading to a fatal confrontation. The woman was reportedly stabbed at her rented home in Manyatta B area within Kisumu East Sub-County. The suspect remains in custody and is expected to be arraigned once investigations are complete.
Meanwhile, police have raised concern over a rise in drowning incidents across the country, linked to ongoing heavy rains. Cases have been reported in Nyandarua, Kitui, and Bungoma counties, involving victims aged between three and 22 years.
Authorities say more than 120 people have died in flood-related incidents nationwide over the past three months, highlighting the growing impact of extreme weather conditions.
