Caroli Omondi Reveals Ksh700M Support for ODM Over 10 Years

Caroli Omondi, the Member of Parliament for Suba South Constituency, has openly shared the extent of his financial support for the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) over the past decade.

In an interview with a local television station on February 18, 2026, Omondi highlighted that his contributions went well beyond standard campaign donations. He noted that his commitment to financing the party has a long history, encompassing substantial support during previous election cycles, including cash, vehicles, campaign materials, and logistical assistance.

Omondi clarified that he did not provide financial support to the ODM during the 2022 and 2017 general elections, citing specific reasons for his decisions. He explained that in 2017, he withheld $2 million (approximately Ksh258 million) after the party denied him a nomination certificate.

“Supporting a political party is not new for me. In 2022, I refrained from contributing financially. In 2017, after ODM denied me a certificate, I chose not to provide them with funds, despite having $2 million ready for them,” Omondi stated.

Reflecting on his contributions in 2013, Omondi detailed that he facilitated the acquisition of 25 vehicles for party operations, invested $2 million (Ksh258 million) in T-shirts, allocated over $100 million (Ksh12.9 billion) to support candidates, and paid Ksh90 million to campaign agents. He emphasized that all of these contributions are well-documented.

“In 2013, my total expenditure for ODM reached approximately Ksh700 million. I provided 25 vehicles, financed T-shirts worth $2 million, supported candidates with over $100 million, and paid Ksh90 million to their agents. All these transactions are recorded,” he affirmed.

Omondi also addressed speculation regarding his departure from the ODM, asserting that he remains an active member of the party, despite announcing his intention not to seek re-election under its banner.

He explained that had he formally departed from ODM, it would have triggered a by-election in Suba South, which has not occurred.

“If I had left ODM, a by-election would have been necessary in my constituency. Therefore, I have not exited the party. However, I have made clear my decision not to seek re-election with ODM,” Omondi clarified.

The MP reiterated his commitment to serving as an ODM legislator until the conclusion of his current term.

“I have communicated this in advance, and I remain a member of ODM, committed to serving until my term ends,” he concluded.
