Fuel Prices Drop, Offering Kenyans Temporary Relief

Kenyan motorists are welcoming good news at the start of the week as fuel prices have been reduced nationwide, marking a positive shift for household and business budgets. The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) announced the new prices, which come into effect immediately and reflect improvements in the value of the Kenyan shilling against the US dollar — a key factor that has contributed to the drop.

In major towns, motorists will now pay lower rates for petrol, diesel and kerosene. For example, in Nakuru, petrol is priced at around KSh 181.56 per litre, while diesel and kerosene are sold at approximately KSh 169.87 and KSh 153.03 per litre, respectively. In Eldoret, similar reductions have brought petrol prices to about KSh 182.38 per litre, diesel to KSh 170.08, and kerosene to KSh 154.03.

The move is expected to bring some economic relief to many Kenyans struggling with rising living costs. Fuel prices have a ripple effect across the economy — affecting transport costs, goods pricing, and the cost of basic services. With the new pricing, consumers and traders alike are hopeful that transport fares and delivery charges may also become more stable in the coming weeks.

Analysts have attributed the decrease to a stronger Kenyan shilling, which has recently shown resilience against the US dollar. A stronger local currency reduces the cost of importing petroleum products, which in turn lowers pump prices.

The reduction has been welcomed by commuters and businesses, especially in regions where transport and logistics costs had been on the rise. Many Kenyans took to social media to express relief at the new prices, noting that lower fuel costs will help ease financial pressures on families and small enterprises.

However, some economists caution that while the fuel price drop is welcome, broad economic stability will depend on sustained currency strength, inflation control, and continued monitoring of global oil markets. For now, the immediate dip in fuel costs brings a welcome breather for many households across the country.
