Muthoni Marubu Dares Gachagua to Visit Mpeketoni

Lamu Woman Representative Muthoni Marubu has issued a bold challenge to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, urging him to confront her directly in her county.

In a statement posted on her social media platforms on Thursday, January 15, 2026, Marubu, who recently faced backlash in Murang’a for attempting to lead Tutam chants during an event featuring Gachagua, called on the former Deputy President to cease his distant criticisms and instead engage with her in Mpeketoni, where she asserts the women she represents will respond decisively. “Let that old man come to Mpeketoni and face the army of women. He should sell his fear in Nyeri,” she declared.

This confrontation follows a recent incident where Marubu was heckled and escorted to safety after she attempted to chant Tutam at the funeral of Embakasi North MP James Gakuya’s father.

Tensions escalated at the funeral when Marubu took the microphone and delivered a politically charged address, despite the somber setting.

She began by expressing condolences and thanking a previous speaker, Munyoro, while directly addressing the Gakuya family. “To the family of my friend Bazenga, I first extend my sympathies for the loss of your mother,” she stated. “I know a mother plays a vital role in a family. I urge you and your siblings to continue supporting one another.”

Marubu then introduced herself as Lamu County’s Woman Representative, identifying herself as Muthoni. “My parents originally hail from here, Murang’a, Maragua.” She praised the local infrastructure, highlighting the smooth roads and reliable electricity, contrasting these advancements with the challenges faced in Lamu.

“I am pleased with the electricity you have here. You people of Mt. Kenya West, I have come to realize that you Kikuyu of Mt. Kenya West, God knows we Kikuyu in the diaspora are not the same. Our troubles differ from yours. Although our parents originated from here, you seem to have reached Singapore,” she remarked.

The atmosphere shifted dramatically when she ventured into political commentary.

“As Muthoni, I want to clarify that I am not aligned with Wantam. I am with Tutam because… I Muthoni am with Tutam.”

Her comments elicited an immediate backlash from the mourners, with videos circulating online showing attendees heckling and booing her, disrupting the intended solemnity of the funeral service.
