Karua Backs Sifuna on 2022 Poll Claims, Says Junet Held Key Azimio Roles

Martha Karua, former running mate for Azimio la Umoja’s presidential bid, spoke out on how party agents were handled in the 2022 elections. She said the late Raila Odinga gave nearly all key tasks to Junet Mohamed, MP for Suna East.

She made these remarks in a morning TV interview on Thursday, January 8, 2026.

Karua addressed recent charges from Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna. He claimed Junet botched campaign funds and agent management. Sifuna spoke on January 3 at a funeral in Murang’a County. He said Junet misused money from former President Uhuru Kenyatta meant for Azimio’s campaign.

In the interview, Karua shared her reaction to Sifuna’s words. She cheered him on. “Speak up loud! We all want to know. Tell us everything.” Though not in every meeting, she knew Junet held major roles.

“Baba handed almost everything to Junet,” Karua stated. She called on others to share what they know.

Karua looked back at her role in 2022. She joined the campaign just two and a half months before voting day. Her schedule left no room for full oversight.

“I was stretched thin. They needed me everywhere on the mountain and beyond. I could not sit down to plan,” she explained.

The former deputy hopeful noted some internal slips happened. But she could not track every one. Candidates nationwide called her, upset over lost or swapped agent lists.

“Agents matter most to candidates. We pushed to fix those lists,” she said.

Her words highlight a growing split in ODM. Sifuna’s claims fuel talk about fund use and agent lists in Raila Odinga’s final run. He said Junet shorted agents on pay and wasted resources.

Karua wants answers too. “Speak louder. We need to hear. Share what you know.”
