Government Set to Compensate a Man After Killing a Python

Charles Osore is a 52-year-old man from Ugunja Subcounty, killed a python. The snake had attacked and killed his dog. Now, he will get money from the government.

Osore lives in Luoka village, Madungu sublocation. The snake struck his dog in his yard. He killed it and took the body to the police station.

The event drew notice. A Kenya Wildlife Service team came to his home. Grace Kariuki led them. She is the Senior Warden for Kisumu and Siaya counties.

At his yard, Kariuki thanked Osore. He worked with officials even after his loss.

She said the trip aimed to help his family. It would start the payment process.

“We brought a form. He will fill it out. Then he waits for the money,” she said.

KWS staff told locals the government would follow rules on animal clashes. They asked people to report such events fast.

The team promised talks in the community. These would teach safe ways to deal with wild animals.

Osore liked the government’s help. He urged KWS to act quick on people-animal fights.

“I’m glad the KWS team came. We learned a lot from the visit, like how to handle these cases,” he said.

Locals, with Alfred Onyango in front, thanked them. The event taught them about saving wildlife.

Onyango said they learned right ways to report issues with snakes or monkeys.

“I did not know we could report those monkeys that bother us every day,” he said.
