war of words has erupted between former CS for Trade, Moses Kuria, and lawyer Ndegwa Njiru, over comments touching on the health of ODM leader Raila Odinga.
Kuria, in a heartfelt social media post, took issues with those spreading rumours about Odinga’s health, describing him as a “deeply compassionate man who went out of his way to offer comfort even to political rivals”.
Kuria revealed that the former Prime Minister visited him several times during his hospital stays, both in Nairobi and abroad.
“In 2020 during COVID, I was hospitalised for 40 days. Baba risked his life and visited me in hospital. In late 2021 and early 2022, I was admitted again for five months, and Raila Odinga visited me three times at Karen Hospital and once in Dubai. That is at a time I was in Tanga Tanga and he was in Azimio,” Kuria wrote. “This compassionate man is the one some are speaking ill about today. Politics is not everything. I hate you all.”
In a sharp and blunt rejoinder to Kuria’s remarks on Raila’s health, advocate Ndegwa Njiru accused Kuria of double standards, reminding him of his earlier unkind remarks about Odinga.
“With all this compassion and you still had the audacity to insult the octogenarian ati macho yake humwaga machozi kama mbwa mzee? I hate you,” Ndegwa responded.
The exchange quickly set off reactions online, with many Kenyans divided. Some praised Kuria for showing humility and respect, while others sided with Ndegwa, saying political leaders should be measured and consistent in their words.
