Green Park Underpass to Get 24-Hour Security

Residents living in Nairobi have been assured of round-the-clock safety once the Green Park Terminus Pedestrian Underpass, currently under construction at the Haile Selassie–Uhuru Highway Roundabout, is completed.

During the project inspection on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, Roads Principal Secretary (PS) Joseph Mbugua said the government has placed security of its citizens at the centre of the project’s design. He revealed that the underpass will feature 24-hour police patrols, supported by retail outlets designed to keep the space active and secure for commuters at all times.

Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) acting Director General Luka Kimeli noted that the underpass will be fitted with modern monitoring systems and safety measures to ensure smooth pedestrian flow.

“What makes this project unique is the integration of constant police presence and 24-hour shops, which will both deter crime and serve daily commuter needs,” Kimeli said.

PS Mbugua added that the construction is on track and that the new facility will not only reduce congestion, but will also curb pedestrian–vehicle accidents, a persistent danger along the busy roundabout. He pointed out that more than 21,000 people cross the area daily, underscoring the urgent need for safer pedestrian infrastructure.

Once completed, the Green Park Terminus Pedestrian Underpass is expected to redefine daily commuting in Nairobi. Beyond offering a safe crossing, the facility blends traffic management with urban convenience—a model the government hopes to replicate in other parts of the city.
