Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has said almost 16 billion shillings were stolen from government coffers just days before the Kenya Kwanza administration took over power.
The Deputy President said an initial 6 billion was stolen under the pretext that they sold Telkom Kenya shares and flown into individuals homes by choppers from Wilson Airport.
He added that during the Supreme Court hearing another 10 billion shillings were stolen with the pretext of paying pending government bills. He said the money was packed in cartons and distributed in various homes of personalities within government.
The Deputy President singled out former internal security Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi as one of the beneficiaries of the stolen money and that that was the reason he fled the country. He challenged the former CS to come back to Kenya and answer questions regarding the stolen funds if he was man enough.
