Thousands Celebrate Hulda Momanyi’s Historic Homecoming in Nyamira

Thousands of residents from the larger Gusii region gathered on Friday for the homecoming ceremony of Hulda Momanyi, a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives, held at Nyamemiso in Nyamira County. The event was filled with a celebratory spirit as attendees marked her historic election victory, a momentous occasion for both Nyamira and Kisii counties.

During the festivities, Momanyi encouraged women to engage more actively in leadership roles and emphasized the importance of addressing gender-based violence. The 39-year-old legislator called for urgent and collaborative government efforts to combat the rising cases of gender-based violence in the country.

Momanyi made history as the first Kenyan-born politician to win a state assembly seat in the United States, representing Minnesota’s Legislative District 38A. Her achievement has inspired many within her community.

In another recent appearance, Momanyi shared her perspective on President William Ruto during the Jamhuri Day celebrations at Uhuru Gardens in Nairobi. When asked by Citizen TV to assess Ruto’s performance since he took office in September 2022, she stated, “I’m not in the business of rating President Ruto, but I know he has a heart for his people and he is doing the best he can to ensure he addresses the concerns of his citizens. He continues to do that, and it’s all the citizens want.”

Momanyi’s words reflect a commitment to both her constituents in Minnesota and her home country, showcasing her dual role as a leader and advocate for positive change.
