Teacher assaulted by Principal in Nyamira County

A troubling incident has emerged from Nyamira County, where a teacher is recovering in a hospital in Ikonge following an alleged assault by the school principal.

Vincent Onyancha reported that he was attacked for arriving late to school.

Onyancha recounted the shocking event, stating, “I was a bit late to class when the principal burst in and began to physically assault me in front of my students. He slapped and kicked me, then dragged me to his office where the beating continued.”

In response to this incident, officials from the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) have condemned the principal’s actions. They urged the Teachers’ Service Commission (TSC) to take immediate legal action against the principal and warned that teachers would strike if no measures are implemented.

Erick Magak, the TSC Director for Nyamira County, confirmed that they have received reports regarding this case and assured the public that an investigation is underway.

The incident has raised serious concerns about the treatment of educators in schools and the need for a safe working environment.
