Senior IEBC official Aisha Abubakar killed in home robbery

Aisha Akinyi Abubakar, a senior official with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), was tragically killed during a violent robbery at her home in Mombasa early Sunday morning.

Her 18-year-old son, Khasim Hassan, sustained serious injuries in the attack.

According to police reports, two masked intruders broke into Abubakar’s residence by cutting through the kitchen window grills. Armed with a crowbar and a knife, they assaulted both mother and son. The assailants inflicted a severe wound to Aisha’s head and also attacked Khasim, leaving him with injuries to his head.

In a desperate bid for help, Khasim managed to drive his mother to Premier Hospital, but sadly, she was pronounced dead upon arrival. Khasim is currently receiving treatment and is reported to be in stable condition, though he has not yet been discharged.

The robbers made off with valuable items, including Aisha’s Samsung A15 mobile phone, a 65-inch Samsung TV, a sound system, an iPad, and a Samsung A21 device.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident and are actively pursuing the suspects involved in this heinous crime. The community is left reeling from the loss of a public servant whose work impacted many, as calls for justice grow louder.
