
On Tuesday, April 7, 2026, President William Ruto welcomed political leaders from Nyeri and Murang’a Counties to State House in Nairobi.
In a post on his official X account, Ruto highlighted that the meeting aimed to accelerate development projects in both regions.
The President committed to transforming Nyeri County through significant infrastructure initiatives, including completing the Kenol-Karatina-Marua dual carriageway, building 8,000 affordable housing units, establishing 20 modern markets, and creating hostels for university and college students.
Ruto also addressed plans to upgrade Ruring’u Stadium, stating that these projects would enhance opportunities, bolster local enterprises, and improve the livelihoods of Nyeri residents.
“By completing the Kenol-Karatina-Marua dual carriageway and other road projects, along with constructing affordable housing and upgrading Ruring’u Stadium, we will transform Nyeri County,” Ruto emphasized.
“During our meeting at State House, we agreed to expedite these initiatives to expand opportunities and strengthen local enterprises in Nyeri.”
Regarding Murang’a, Ruto reported on the progress of essential projects, including the ongoing construction of Mau Mau roads, Mumbi and Gakoigo stadia, Kenneth Matiba Hospital, affordable housing, and electricity connectivity.
“Our transformation program in Murang’a County is advancing well, encompassing road construction, hospital development, market infrastructure, and electricity connectivity,” Ruto noted on X.
“I met with Murang’a County leaders at State House to review our development agenda and discuss key projects, including the ongoing construction of Mau Mau roads and other vital infrastructure.”
Attendees from Nyeri included Governor Mutahi Kahiga, Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi, and Nyeri Town MP Duncan Maina Mathenge. Murang’a was represented by Lands Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome, Woman Representative Betty Maina, nominated MP Sabina Chege, and nominated Senator Veronica Maina, among others.
