Rally driver Maxine Wahome released on bail after assault charges

Rally driver Maxine Wahome who was arrested on December 12 for assaulting her boyfriend has been released on a Ksh.100,000 cash bail pending further investigations into the incident.

According to Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Bernard Ochoi, Wahome is required to report weekly to the case Investigating Officer Stephen Kibei at the Kilimani Police Station.

The rally driver was arrested in Kilimani after allegedly inflicting serious injuries on her boyfriend, Asad Khan. The incident was reported to the police by Asad’s brother Adila Khan who was tipped by the apartment management. Police officers who visited the scene found that Asad had been rushed to Nairobi hospital while Wahome was present in the house with household goods littered all over.

Wahome spent a day in custody, with police officers requesting the court to allow them 14 more days to detain her saying; “The continued detention of the respondent is immensely necessary for the furtherance and finalizing of the investigations, her release could further lead to interference with the investigations and a flight risk as has not disclosed her fixed abode.”

Justice Ochoi however rejected the police request to detain Wahome and released her on bond.
