Raila Video Reveals Support for Late Ng’eno

A resurfaced video of Raila Odinga has drawn public attention after the veteran politician disclosed how he once supported the late Emurua Dikir MP, Johana Ng’eno. In the clip, Odinga is heard referring to Ng’eno as “ni kijana wangu,” loosely translated to mean “he is my boy,” while recounting how he assisted him earlier in life, including paying part of his school fees.

The renewed interest in the video comes in the wake of Ng’eno’s tragic death on February 28 after a helicopter he was travelling in crashed in Nandi County, killing all six people on board. The incident has continued to spark grief and reflection among leaders, friends, and constituents who worked closely with the outspoken legislator.

During the recorded address, Odinga speaks in a light but firm tone, reminding Ng’eno about the importance of democratic values. He noted that democracy allows citizens to express views even when others disagree, while also giving room for response and debate. The remarks, delivered in a candid moment, amused guests who were present at the event where the video was taken.

Meanwhile, fresh details have emerged from Ng’eno’s close associate and mentee, GK Kechwo, who narrowly escaped boarding the ill-fated helicopter. Kechwo revealed that a motorcycle puncture delayed his arrival at the pickup point in Mara Rianta by about five minutes, ultimately saving his life. The shaken aide described the moment as providential, saying the unexpected delay prevented him from joining the flight that ended in tragedy.

Kechwo, who said he had worked closely with Ng’eno for nearly two decades, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of his mentor. As tributes continue to pour in, the resurfaced video has added a new emotional layer to public memories of the late MP, highlighting the political and personal relationships that shaped his journey.
